No, I don’t wanna try
If I have to see you go
Oh, I don’t want to know
If I could take the cold

Things in the not so stain resistant future

Been a while since I’ve posted here.
Unfortunately since I’ve started working my summer internship (two weeks before my summer even began) I haven’t been allowed to tweet or post about all the amazing stuff within the walls of NYC’s hottest recording studio right now. But please, check out their site, www.junglecitystudios.com, it has been a very surreal experience.
In other news, there is a CD release by me and now alumni, Mark Wudtke, titled “Please Remind Me”. It was a project that tested unfamiliar processes which is fitting to its theme of traveling and driving somewhere new. http://thedooryard.bandcamp.com/album/please-remind-me
A kickstarter campaign! Of epic Purchase proportions. Fun fact—Scott was the name of the magician at my 5th backyard birthday party. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1397699638/the-tiny-elephants-a-false-sense-of-awesome
Finally, this weekend, a new EP release from Radial!!! 3 songs featured at our first live show on April 26 at Purchase. The title of that…Video Star.

Bruce Springsteen’s Keynote Speech at SXSW
“The genesis and power of creativity. The power of the ‘songwriter’, or let’s say ‘composer’, or just ‘creator’. So whether you’re making dance music or americana, rap music, electronica, it’s all about how you’re putting what you do together. The elements you’re using don’t matter. The purity of human expression and experience is not confined to guitars, to tubes, to turn tables, to microchips. There is no pure way, no right way, of doing it. There’s just doing it.”
We live in a post-authentic world. Today, authenticity is a house of mirrors. It’s all just what you’re bringing when the lights go down. It’s your teachers, your influences, your personal history, and tat the end of the day, it’s the power and purpose of your music that still matters.”
This is a really fantastic speech, and very important for our time right now. He spends most of his time giving a haphazard and convoluted summary of pop music history, and in doing so, I think, exemplifies the point he makes in the quote I included. Music comes from everywhere, and it is vital to our culture and to us as individuals. There is no genre or style that is more important than another and there is no right way of doing it, there is just doing it.
Very inspiring look at our extremely eclectic musical landscape.

it's actually pronounced blohg.: MUSIC IS MY JOB.
sometimes i wish i had a real job. like when i haven’t been paid money in a while and i’m still working 15 hours a day. or when i feel a little under the weather but know that a doctors visit is going to cost a lot. or when i’ve just played a show and then have to drive a van a few hours to get a…
Thankful? Yes. And I too have to remind myself everyday!

Jeff Tweedy interview
Always life-affirming listening to Tweedy. Its like going into the future and realizing the worries I have now won’t matter. I may have different worries when I get older but there will always be power and comfort in the creation of art. Lately, its been more of a battle of letting go all the self-conscious noise in my head when the work I should be doing shouldn’t even feel like work.

OH HEY THERE VALENTINE!
click on the box of chocolates for a free song, today only! :)
happy valentine’s day, beautiful tumblrpeople!
if you like the song, be sure to check out the rest of new hands on iTunes :)
(I wish I could just download those chocolates) …but what you coould download, almost immediately, is Natalie Angiuli’s 2nd EP, New Hands! Worth checking out? Of coursee, I only reblog stuff that matters and Natalie is a friend from the good ol’ days of LaG. Her work always blows me away and her songwriting successfully and consistently takes me to another place. A desirable place. I’ve never been to California but the fantasy of it is alluring. Nonetheless, despite my NYC winter blues, New Hands offers carefully crafted comfort.
